JPG vs PNG vs WebP: Which Image Format Should You Use?
Picking the wrong image format means bigger files, slower pages, or blurry results. Here is a plain comparison of the three formats you will use most.
JPG (JPEG)
Best for photos. It uses lossy compression, so you can trade a little quality for a much smaller file. It does not support transparent backgrounds. At around 75–85% quality, most photos look almost identical to the original.
PNG
Best for logos, icons, screenshots and anything with sharp text or transparency. PNG is lossless, so quality stays perfect, but photo files are usually much larger than JPG.
WebP
A modern format that usually gives smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality, and supports transparency too. It works in all major current browsers, which makes it a strong choice for websites.
